Day 8 – A Song To Match Your Mood
Why? I actually feel really great today and this is such a cute song/music video.

Beautiful song. Amazing harmonies.

Great mashup! It’s been on repeat for me all day. So much better than the original (with its horrendous engrish -_-)

So Kyle Minogue just released a new single, off her latest album, called All the Lovers. My friend Ryan actually showed me this song, and I really liked it. The song is really great, but I what I was really intrigued at, was the music video. I really love it when music videos are more than just singing, and when they really have a message and/or a story behind it. Here are my thoughts on what the video meant to me:

The beginning of the music video starts of kind of strange, definitely eyebrow-raise worthy. People in the streets just strip down to their underwear and start making out with each other.

But then she’s raised up by all these people and starts to sing the chorus of the song, “All the lovers, that have gone before. They don’t compare, to you”. These lovers, that are lifting her up, collectively represent Kylie’s past loves.

This song is for Kylie’s new love. The lover isn’t pictured (yet), but it’s clear that these past lovers are causing a barrier for him, and in essence preventing him from fully loving her. This can be inferred from the big white elephant that’s floating around. I’m not sure if you’ve heard the phrase, “the elephant in the room” or “the elephant in the corner”, but it’s supposed to represent a truth or a problem that’s very obvious (as obvious as an elephant sitting in the room), but people choose to ignore it.
But throughout the song Kylie tries to assure this lover, “Feel. Can’t you see there’s so much here to feel? Deep inside your heart, you know I’m real. Can’t you see that this is really higher?”

In the next part, you see Kylie being thrown into this “pool of past loves”. I think this is the part where she is questioned, by others and also by herself. Will she be forever defined by the relationships she had with these past loves? She is a unique person, her love for this new person is also unique, but all people can see are these ex-loves around her.

But luckily the new love, represented by this white horse, finally understands and comes running to her. By this point you can see that she is lifted up to the top of this love pyramid. This new love is definitely “higher”, and it took the past experiences to get to that point.

You can see that at the very end, the elephant flies away in to the sky.
Very well thought out video, and as with most things, I only scratched the surface. There are many for things that can be discussed in this music video, for instance: all the white imagery. Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed the video!

Standing Egg - 사랑한다는 말
I haven’t heard a good Korean Indie song in a while, so this is definitely worthy of a post. If you haven’t heard Korean Indie before, try listening to it! It’s way different from the pop songs that you normally hear. Enjoy!
